Civics and Project Citizen Training held for DepED-Bislig City

More than 60 teachers from the Department of Education-Bislig City Division joined the Civic Education Training Seminars (CETS) organized by the Philippine Center for Civic Education and Democracy (PCCED) last April 18-20 at the DepED Compound in the City of Bislig.

During the seminar, Mrs. Josita Carmen, the City Division Superintendent, emphasized the important role of civic education in the new K to 12 curriculum. “More than ever, we need to make sure that our students have a strong sense of patriotism in line with our vision of developing students who would contribute to nation building.”

The seminar included sessions on “The Philippines as a Nation in Progress” by PCCED Chair Dr. Clement Camposano, “Civic Culture” by Dr. Maria Riza Bondal, “Education for Democracy” by Rey Trillana and a “Workshop on Teaching Strategies” by Dr. Ernesto Grio.

PCCED also trained the teachers on Project Citizen, a PCCED program designed to allow students to learn about democracy by participating in government processes.

PCCED has been organizing civic education seminars since 2004. If you, or your school, are interested, please contact us at citizenship.ph@pcced.org.
