PCCED holds Legal Clinic in Jagna

20151028_160156The Philippine Center for Civic Education and Democracy in partnership with the University of Bohol College of Law, Office of the Legal Aid held a half-day Legal Clinic Batch 2 under the Good Governance Program last October 29, 2015 at the Looc Multi-purpose Hall in Jagna. Participants and partners were welcomed by Hon. Bonifacio J. Virtudes, Jr. representing Mayor Fortunato R. Abrenilla for and in behalf of the Local Government Unit of Jagna.

The objective of the activity is to reinforce the knowledge and skills of the Lupon members on Katarungang Pambarangay and conflict resolution.  Atty. Greg Austral, Dean of the College of Law, shared the best practices of the Katarungang Pambarangay of Barangay UP Diliman wherein aside from the usual lupon duties, the Barangay Chairperson also created committees within the Lupon Membership such as: Monitoring Committee, Information and Education Committee and Research Committee. Volunteers from the Office of the Legal Aid gave inputs on the Anti-violence against women and children or RA. 9262. The activity ended with an open forum wherein Atty. Jansyl Lovan Tumanda  and Atty. Greg Austrl answered the queries and clarifications of the participants regarding the cases filed before the Lupon offices.

The activity is part of the Barangay Rule of Law under the project: “Promoting Democratic Values in the  Barangays of Jagna” which is supported by Zabalketa and Gobyerno Vasca.
