PCCED implements BRLS IN Barcelona, Sorsogon

BARCELONA, Sorsogon – The Philippine Center for Civic Education and Democracy (PCCED), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Barcelona, Sorsogon and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently held its Barangay Rule of Law Seminar (BRLS) on the 19th – 20th day of September, 2015 at the BADECO Hall Brgy. Poblacion Sur, Barcelona, Sorsogon.

BRLS in one of the programs implemented by the PCCED in partnership with ZABALKETA and funded by Agencia Española Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarollo (AECID) under the project entitled “Promoting Democratic Values in the Barangays of Barcelona” which started last February 2015.

The seminar recognizes the role of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in their respective barangays in maintaining peace and harmony in the community. Through the BRLS, the Lupon are provided with tools to enhance their procedural and technical skills, as well as knowledge in implementing the Katarungan Pambarangay.

At least 60 participants composed of Punong Barangays, Barangay Secretaries, Chair/Member of Committee in Peace and Order and four (4) Representatives from Lupong Tagapamaya attended the training. The participants came from 11 barangays of the municipality, namely: Layog, Cagang, Poblacion Sur and Norte, Olandia, San Isidro, Tagdon, Alegria, San Vicente, Jibong, and Mapapac.

Atty. Cyra Mabini discussed the The Law on Katarungan Pambarangay and Techniques and Skills in Resolving Conflicts. PCCED Board Member and BRLS Consultant Mr. Philip Michael Paje lectured on topics about the Barangays as “Schools for Citizenship” and “Towards a Transformative KPS”.
